Moving abroad … Tips for packing?

We plan on moving in the summer, I have 6 months to prepare. We have 3 children, and of course too much stuff. I'm trying to get rid of, how much stuff as possible (eg, toys, baby stuff, clothing, etc.), but I'm not sure how the actual packaging approach in a semi-organized manner. I can not imagine that our lists of every single item in each box, but I want everything to be simple and easy to unpack, if we're there. Any tips? I would be very grateful for ideas, advice and / or experiences you may have!

Lists are good to generalize them. They are not in a catalog or whatever. Jim Jen Sara Dan Jimmy and those with numbers, jim1, Jim2 would be Jim's coat, J1 and working clothes, J2. It goes on and on from there, unpacking makes it much easier, and each field or fields correctly placed in each room assigned upon arrival.
